The unique use of lighting is what really makes this unusual kitchen “pop”. The mesh pendants over the island, the interesting chandelier opposite the island and the very unusual use of under counter lighting add to the ambience of this room.
This kitchen designer has also decided to combine several different wood finishes. There is a distressed and glazed light finish on the cabinetry that complements the dark cherry finish on the island. The moldings around the windows and doors are done in a lighter stain than the island. Large ceramic tiles laid on the diagonal add interest to the floor.
When using several different colors, finishes and materials it is important to have a unifying feature. In this kitchen the granite countertops, along with the matching hardware, keep the room from looking too disjointed. The rubbed bronze fixtures all serve to ground the room. A high polished chrome, even pewter, may be too jarring considering all that is going on in this kitchen.
The rounded shelving at the end of the counter and the built-in niche next to the prep sink area offer space to display collectibles, making it possible to really personalize the room.
